In addition to my ongoing private and communal spiritual practice - or perhaps more accurately, as another aspect of it, I also create hand-carved utensils and other items from rescued and re-purposed wood. Though to be honest, it's not so much a process of creation as it is of revelation and release; of allowing whatever's hidden in the wood to come forward and tell its story through my hands and my tools. There's a shaping here - of the wood and of myself - into something better suited to a life of service. My experience as an adult child of alcoholism and dysfunctionality has taught me that there's not a whole lot of difference between this process and the ongoing journey of my recovery.
